Destiny 2's Prophecy Year: Comprehensive Guardian Roadmap

Author:Kristen Update:Aug 06,2025

Prepare, Guardian — Bungie has revealed exciting updates for its sci-fi shooter, Destiny 2, featuring two new expansions, alongside major seasonal and core game enhancements for both paid and free players, all under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy."

The Year of Prophecy introduces four major content updates, including two paid expansions and two significant updates accessible to all players, marking a first for the game’s annual cycle.

Rite of the Nine, a reimagined dungeon experience for both veteran players and newcomers, is now available at no extra cost. Familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep return with fresh challenges, reconnecting players with Orin and offering revamped dungeon weapons.

On July 15, the new expansion, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, launches as part of a multiyear narrative arc. This paid expansion reintroduces the enigmatic Nine, with key characters Lodi and Warlock Vanguard Ikora taking center stage.

Set on the new destination Kepler, inspired by Destiny 2’s puzzle-driven dungeons, this expansion encourages exploration, mystery, and player-led discovery with new enemies, weapons, gear, and unique destination-specific abilities.

Also launching on July 15, significant core game updates will enhance gameplay, including overhauled armor and gear systems for deeper build customization and a new activity hub called the Portal.

"The Portal lets players seamlessly select from Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops," Bungie shared. "Fireteam Ops and Pinnacle Ops focus on cooperative play, while Solo Ops cater to players seeking short, standalone sessions without needing a fireteam.

"Players can customize activities with 50 new modifiers for tailored challenges and rewards, while curated rotations keep content fresh and engaging."

As with past expansions, pre-order bonuses include an instantly unlockable Exotic Ghost and Legendary Emblem. Full details are listed below:

Starting September 9, the Ash & Iron update rolls out, followed by the second expansion, Renegades, on December 2. The Shadow & Order update arrives on March 3.

Destiny 2: Renegades draws inspiration from the Star Wars universe, blending Destiny’s signature storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi themes and elements.

These updates come as welcome news for Destiny 2 fans, especially after Bungie’s layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, representing 17% of its workforce, following 100 earlier layoffs within the year.

Bungie is also working on Marathon, revealed in May 2023 as a reboot of its classic franchise. A recent IGN hands-on preview noted: "After experiencing Marathon in its alpha state, I’m confident it will satisfy fans craving Bungie’s signature PvP action. With a planned release in September, it’s poised to be a standout on PC and consoles."
