Daredevil fans are in for a treat! A new Daredevil miniseries, Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell, is launching, reuniting writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven. This series draws inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns, depicting an older, powerless Matt Murdock grappling with his past.

Set in a future where superheroes are largely absent, the story explores what remains of Matt Murdock when his powers fade. Soule explains this allows for a fresh perspective, stripping the hero down to his core essence. The series also features a new, unique corner of the Marvel Universe with its own history.

The collaboration between Soule and McNiven is described as a "jazz" approach, a highly collaborative process reflected in the final product. This isn't their first exploration of aging heroes; their work on Death of Wolverine shares thematic similarities. Soule considers each project an evolution of their collaboration.

While details on supporting characters and villains are scarce, Soule promises significant surprises. He emphasizes the accessibility of the story, requiring only basic knowledge of Daredevil's background.

Interestingly, Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell coincides with the release of the Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+. Soule confirms that Born Again draws inspiration from his previous Daredevil comic run, including elements beyond Mayor Fisk and the villain Muse. He expresses his excitement about the adaptation reaching a wider audience.

Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell #1 releases April 2nd, 2025.
