Who is Danny Dyer and Why is Rockstar Posting About His Latest Movie?

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 18,2025

Rockstar Games' recent X post promoting the film Marching Powder and its star, Danny Dyer, likely left many scratching their heads. Why would a studio with 21 million followers promote a relatively small British film? Let's delve into the unexpected connection.

Who is Danny Dyer?

For those unfamiliar, Daniel John Dyer, or Danny Dyer as he's known, is a highly recognizable East London actor. In the UK, he's a true celebrity, often described as a "legend"—a term signifying someone funny, rebellious, original, and sensitive. His career spans back to 1993, and he's known for portraying working-class characters, a persona reflected in his outspoken public image and "tough uncle" demeanor. His wild social media presence further cements this image; for instance, his memorable tweet about sending a Furby into space on a rocket is a prime example.

Danny Dyer's Rockstar Connection

Even if you don't know Danny Dyer, you've likely heard his voice in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. He voiced Kent Paul, the manager of the band Love Fist in GTA: Vice City, and later reprised the role for GTA: San Andreas, managing the Gurning Chimps and producing for rapper Madd Dogg. However, his connection to Rockstar runs deeper. In 2004, Dyer starred in The Football Factory, a British film directed by Nick Love and produced by Rockstar Games—a lesser-known foray into filmmaking for the gaming giant.

Marching Powder, the film currently released in the UK and Ireland, reunites Dyer and Love. While not a direct sequel to The Football Factory, it shares similar themes: football hooliganism, heavy drinking, drug use, and a distinctly British brand of dark humor. Rockstar's X post, therefore, seems to be a show of support for the film based on their previous collaboration with Dyer and Love on The Football Factory, not a direct involvement in Marching Powder itself.

Kent Paul in GTA 6?

The question on many minds: will Kent Paul return in GTA 6? The short answer is: we don't know. The social media post offers no clues. It's important to remember the GTA universe is divided into distinct eras (3D and HD), with separate continuities. While there are some crossovers (e.g., Grove Street's appearance in GTA 5), a character's presence in one era doesn't guarantee their return in another. Interestingly, Kent Paul's name is on the Vinewood Walk of Fame, hinting at a possible, albeit tenuous, connection. Therefore, while a return isn't impossible, the Marching Powder post doesn't provide any evidence for it.
