Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 Updated

While eagerly anticipating the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many fans are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM 2 games. The developers have not only resumed their work but have also rolled out a significant update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation, enhancing the technical aspects and more.

This update introduces robust support for multiplayer modifications, ensuring compatibility with mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. A key feature added is the ability for all players to pick up items during cooperative play, enhancing the team experience. Additionally, an observer mode has been implemented, allowing players who are dead to watch the action and wait for revival. The multiplayer network code has been optimized for smoother gameplay, and the mod loader now supports more than the first 100+ mods a player subscribes to, offering greater flexibility and variety.

Turning our attention to the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages, the developers are focusing on accessibility and customization. Players will have the option to adjust the aggression of demons through in-game settings, making the experience more tailored to individual preferences. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized that the goal is to make the game as accessible as possible, providing a higher level of customization than previous id Software projects.

In DOOM: The Dark Ages, players will be able to fine-tune various aspects of the game, including enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed, the amount of damage they receive, game tempo, aggression levels, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior knowledge of DOOM: The Dark Ages is not necessary to understand the narratives in both DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal, ensuring a welcoming experience for newcomers and veterans alike.
