Sid Meier's renowned turn-based strategy series, *Civilization*, embarks on a new chapter with the release of *Civilization VII*. As the game rolls out across various major gaming platforms, a key question arises: does *Civilization VII* support cross-play and cross-progression?

Civilization VII does indeed offer cross-play functionality across platforms, but there are some important considerations. To participate in cross-play, players must have an active 2K account, which is linked to their chosen gaming platforms. While cross-play works smoothly between PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, allowing players to enjoy the full range of maps and player counts across various historical ages, there are limitations when playing with Nintendo Switch users.
The Nintendo Switch version of Civilization VII supports fewer map sizes and a smaller number of players in certain historical ages. Specifically, Switch users can only participate in maps listed as below standard size. In cross-play multiplayer, Switch players are limited to four players in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and up to six players in the Modern Age. Therefore, if a Switch player is involved in a cross-play session, these restrictions will apply to all participants.
In summary, cross-play in Civilization VII is seamless across most platforms, but when a Switch is involved, players should be aware of the gameplay limitations. This doesn't detract from the Switch's appeal, but it's essential to understand its capabilities, especially in cross-play scenarios.

The cross-progression system in Civilization VII is straightforward compared to its cross-play functionality. Players who link their 2K account across different platforms can enjoy seamless progress tracking. Whether you're playing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC, your 2K account will keep your progress synchronized across all linked platforms, ensuring you don't have to start over on each device.
Recognizing the modern gaming landscape where players often own multiple platforms, 2K and developer Firaxis Games have integrated cross-progression into Civilization VII from launch. This feature, which was added post-release in Civilization VI, reflects a commitment to enhancing player experience across devices, whether you're gaming on a Steam Deck, a Switch, or at home on a PC or console.
Civilization VII is set to launch on February 11, bringing with it the promise of a unified gaming experience across multiple platforms.
