"Choosing Your Class in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Guide"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 19,2025

At the beginning of *Citizen Sleeper 2*, players face a crucial decision: selecting one of three classes—Operator, Machinist, or Extractor. The ideal choice hinges on your preferred play style. Having completed the game, here's a detailed look at each class, their abilities, and who might enjoy them from a role-playing standpoint.

Operator

The Operator class begins with a + in Interface, base levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. They can't level up Endure. Their unique ability allows them to accrue Stress in exchange for re-rolling their lowest dice.

While I appreciate the Operator class, it's not my top pick among the three. As you advance and upgrade your abilities, you become significantly more powerful. However, the early game can be challenging. Interface is a valuable skill, and if you can navigate the initial hurdles, the Operator is a robust choice. The ability to re-roll the lowest dice isn't always ideal, as you might still end up with a poor result.

From a role-play perspective, the Operator is versatile, allowing you to embody a wide range of characters.

Machinist

The Machinist class starts with a + in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. They can't level up Engage. Their ability lets them gain Stress to add +2 to their lowest dice, and they lose 2 Stress on a Positive outcome. As *Citizen Sleeper 2* progresses, they can further enhance their dice and reduce Stress.

I chose the Machinist for my first playthrough, and it quickly became my favorite. The ability to manage Stress effectively and navigate out of tough spots is invaluable. The game frequently involves Engineer and Interface checks, which the Machinist is well-equipped to handle. Additionally, the ability to reduce Stress is a major advantage, given how challenging it can be to manage this mechanic.

For those interested in the technical and mechanical aspects of the game's world, the Machinist class in *Citizen Sleeper 2* is an excellent fit.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a + in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. They can't level up Intuit. Their ability allows them to gain Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest dice, and as the game progresses, they can upgrade this ability to further boost crew performance.

I find the Extractor's ability highly beneficial, especially when managing crew during Contracts. It significantly reduces risk. Starting with a bonus to Endure is also advantageous, as many game scenarios require this skill. However, I found myself with a surplus of crew members skilled in Endure and Engage as the game went on.

From a role-play perspective, those who enjoy playing a tough, resilient character will find the Extractor class in *Citizen Sleeper 2* appealing.

This guide should help you decide which class to choose in *Citizen Sleeper 2*, based on your play style and role-playing preferences.
