CD Projekt Red: Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 is “organic and logical”

CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will take center stage in The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the rich potential of the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, making Ciri the logical successor. Her established depth and complexity, honed across books and games, offer exciting new creative avenues for the developers.

Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's age as a key factor, allowing for greater player agency in shaping her character arc – a freedom unavailable with the established Geralt. The shift, discussed internally for nearly a decade, underscores CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri as Geralt's heir. Kalemba promises a new saga filled with fresh challenges and perspectives, maintaining the epic scale of the series.

The decision has the support of Geralt's voice actor, Doug Cockle, who recognizes Ciri's immense potential as a protagonist. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, allowing Ciri's narrative to take the forefront.
