Captain America: Brave New World Projected to Beat Estimates With $100 Million Domestic Box Office Over Presidents Day Weekend

Captain America: Brave New World exceeded expectations with a projected $100 million domestic box office opening over the Presidents Day weekend. Comscore estimates the film earned $88.5 million from 4,105 theaters over the three-day weekend, projecting a four-day total of $100 million. Adding its impressive $92.4 million international haul, the global weekend estimate reaches $192.4 million.

Deadline reports the film's production budget was $180 million, with a break-even point estimated at $425 million globally. This strong opening places Captain America: Brave New World as the fourth-best Presidents Day launch ever, trailing only fellow superhero films Black Panther ($242 million), Deadpool ($152 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120 million).

Despite receiving mixed reviews—IGN awarded it a 5/10, criticizing its lack of originality and stating it "feels neither brave, nor all that new"—the film's strong opening weekend performance is noteworthy. The film's success will be closely monitored to determine if it can reverse a recent negative trend for Marvel Cinematic Universe films (excluding last year's highly successful Deadpool & Wolverine), and build momentum leading into Thunderbolts in May and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
