Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 with Cheerful Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Author:Kristen Update:May 20,2025

Capcom has cleverly teased Resident Evil 9 in a seemingly innocuous video celebrating 10 million players of Resident Evil 4. Released on April 25, the video features Ada Wong conversing with a notorious villain, followed by a scene of Leon surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats, heading towards a church.

The video takes a fun twist with Dr. Salvador strumming his chainsaw like a guitar to a rock song, and Leon fist-pumping in front of a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed something intriguing: when the sign is turned on its side, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," representing the number 9.

While some might dismiss this as a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem highlighted that the lower plank on the sign appears only in this final scene, suggesting it was intentionally added. This observation sparked reactions from fans, with one commenter saying, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

PlayCapcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the *Resident Evil* series, *Resident Evil 9*, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who previously directed *Resident Evil 7*. Nakanishi expressed the challenges he faced in deciding the direction after *Resident Evil 7*, stating, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore, though this has not been officially confirmed.
