Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead. Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is nearing fruition at Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role. While the series will focus on a new Slayer, Gellar's involvement is anticipated as a recurring character.

Adding star power behind the camera, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is in negotiations to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman are set to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original creator Joss Whedon is not participating.

PlayWhedon's absence follows previous allegations of a toxic work environment on the original Buffy and its spin-off, Angel.

Plot details remain scarce, but the reboot will center around a new Slayer, with the possibility of Gellar's return as Buffy.

The original series followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight supernatural forces. She was aided by her friends Willow, Xander, and Watcher Rupert Giles.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired for seven seasons (1997-2003), spawning Angel and continuing its story through comic books.
