Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in Dynasty Warriors history, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.

Initial Strategy:

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon. Once all bases are secured, assault Hulao Gate.

Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:

The initial assault on the gate is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, weakening enemy defenses and allowing you to advance.

Lu Bu's Arrival:

Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers near the main battle to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly depletes.

Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will provide a temporary defense. This creates a time limit – defeat Dong Zhuo before Liu Bei's forces are routed and Lu Bu eliminates Yuan Shao.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases to prepare a three-pronged attack on Dong Zhuo. Once fully healed and your forces are ready, launch your assault.

Dong Zhuo will use two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage (if available) to break through enemy lines and eliminate soldiers and officers guarding the catapults. Your forces will then destroy them, ending the Grand Tactic.

The second Grand Tactic requires defeating an officer. Proceed to the stairs on the right. You'll encounter Diaochan, fighting alongside Dong Zhuo. If possible, duel her; defeating her simplifies the fight against the officer, ending the Grand Tactic.

With the Grand Tactics thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should easily overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate his own Grand Tactic, further aiding your victory. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
