Backbone Reveals New Xbox Mobile Controller

  • Backbone and Xbox have teamed up to launch a new mobile gaming controller.
  • The Backbone One: Xbox Edition will carry a retail price of $109.99.
  • It features official Xbox branding and a sleek translucent green finish.

In recent years, Xbox has been one of the biggest champions of mobile gaming. The company—and its parent Microsoft—clearly aims to position Xbox as a gaming identity, rather than a single platform. It’s no surprise, then, that Xbox has partnered with gaming accessory maker Backbone to introduce a new controller designed for mobile play.

The Backbone One: Xbox Edition is priced at $109.99 and will be sold directly through Backbone and via Best Buy Drops. At first glance, the Xbox influence is unmistakable—the controller comes with the signature XYBA buttons, Xbox branding, and additional features, all wrapped in an eye-catching translucent green shell.

Currently, the Backbone controller only works with USB-C devices, meaning Android phones and possibly future iOS devices if EU legislation around USB-C standardization moves forward.

ytIs the price a little too steep?

There’s no denying the Backbone One: Xbox Edition looks sharp. As someone who’s always loved transparent electronics—even after moving from Xbox to PlayStation and PC—I find the design appealing. It’s likely to catch the eye of frequent Game Pass subscribers and mobile gamers.

However, the $100+ price tag could be a dealbreaker for some. While a full Xbox console costs significantly more (usually over $400), paying that much for a branded controller might give some shoppers pause.

Even so, it's clear Xbox is making bold moves in the mobile space. Need proof? Take a look at our roundup of the top 10 Xbox Game Pass titles for Android!
