Assassin’s Creed Series Ranked: Where Does Shadows Fit?

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 03,2025

Ubisoft’s iconic stealth-action saga welcomes its newest chapter with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. But how does it stack up against the series’ storied history? We’re inviting you to decide. With over 30 titles under the Assassin’s Creed name, this ranking focuses solely on the mainline games, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR, or spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles entering the Animus to embody his ancestor Altaïr. Now, 18 years later, players explore 16th-century Japan as Naoe and Yasuke in the 14th core title. I’ve crafted a personal ranking using an IGN Tier List, reflecting my enjoyment of each game. Check out my tier list here:

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, blending island exploration, naval battles, and a vibrant cast for an unmatched experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that propelled the series to fame. In the A-tier, Valhalla stands out for its thrilling Viking combat and addictive Orlog minigame, while Unity impresses with its breathtaking depiction of French Revolution-era Paris, still striking a decade on.

Disagree with my picks? Think Valhalla’s scope is too unwieldy or Assassin’s Creed 2 doesn’t live up to its hype? Create your own tier list below to rank the mainline games and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
