Prime Video has officially concluded The Wheel of Time series, canceling it after Season 3.

According to Deadline, Prime Video opted not to renew The Wheel of Time for Season 4 following extensive discussions. While executives reportedly appreciated the show, financial viability ultimately proved unworkable.

Adapted from Robert Jordan's beloved fantasy book series and starring Rosamund Pike, The Wheel of Time overcame initial criticism from book purists during its first two seasons. Season 3 successfully won over most fans and appeared poised for even greater storytelling.

The cancellation comes as a significant blow to fans, leaving much of Jordan's epic narrative untold. Many felt the series was just hitting its stride.

Production costs reportedly became prohibitive for co-producers Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, the latter already investing heavily in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Deadline's sources explained:

Season 3's performance metrics couldn't justify the show's substantial budget despite various renewal scenarios explored with Sony TV.

IGN awarded Season 3 an 8/10, praising its realization of Jordan's rich universe: "This season fully delivers on The Wheel of Time's promise with compelling character development."

While the television adaptation concludes, fans can anticipate an upcoming AAA open-world RPG based on the franchise, currently in development by iwot Studios.
