How to Add Evolutionary Power to Your Team: A Guide to Catching and Evolving Deino

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 20,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize the powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon Hydreigon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon, a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, boasts impressive stats and is a valuable addition to any team. However, its evolutionary line (Deino and Zweilous) is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.

Acquiring Deino:

Deino can be found in several locations within Pokémon Scarlet: Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage, Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two). The Alfornada Cavern and Dalizapa Passage require Koraidon's high jump ability. Alternatively, Deino appears in 3-star Tera Raids (accessible after obtaining three Gym Badges). These raid Deino may possess different Tera Types and a chance of having a Hidden Ability. Zweilous, Deino's evolution, can also be found in the wild (Dalizapa Passage, Area Zero, Alfornada Cavern) and 4-star Tera Raids. Hydreigon itself is available in 5/6-star Tera Raids.

Transferring Deino to Pokémon Violet:

Since Deino is Scarlet-exclusive, trading or transferring via Pokémon HOME is necessary to obtain it in Violet. The Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for Union Circle trading. Pokémon HOME allows transfers from Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Scarlet. The process involves moving Deino to your HOME Basic Box, then transferring it to your Violet PC Box.

  1. Open Pokémon HOME. Select your source game (containing Deino) and move it to your Basic Box. Save and exit.
  2. In HOME, open Pokémon Violet and transfer Deino from the Basic Box to a PC Box. Save and exit.

Evolving Deino:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Auto-battling or using Exp. Candies (especially L and XL) accelerates this process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon's base stat total is 600, with high Special Attack and Attack, and good Speed. A Timid (+Speed, -Attack) or Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack) Nature is recommended.

Stat Base Stat
HP 92
Attack 105
Sp. Attack 125
Defense 90
Sp. Defense 90
Speed 98
Total 600

Type Effectiveness:

  • Super Effective Against: Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
  • Weaknesses: Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice
  • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark
  • Immunities: Ground, Psychic

Terastallizing mitigates Hydreigon's 4x weakness to Fairy. Offensively, altering its Tera Type provides STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) on moves like Flash Cannon (learned via TM). Hydreigon's moveset allows for both physical and special attacking styles. However, its vulnerability to Fairy necessitates a Steel-type move like Flash Cannon. Other suggested moves include Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse.
