Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their critically acclaimed war survival game, This War of Mine. The new trailer reflects on the studio's journey, showcasing the evolution from the bleak realism of This War of Mine to the more vibrant, humorous narrative of The Alters.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its grim depiction of war, The Alters offers a contrasting, passionate, and often humorous story centered around alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these tonal differences, the developers underscore a significant thematic link between the two titles.

Both games share a core focus on survival, albeit expressed in vastly different contexts. In This War of Mine, players grapple with the harsh realities of war in a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and overcoming daily challenges to keep their civilian group alive. The Alters, however, presents survival as a frantic race against time, demanding players constantly relocate their mobile base to escape a relentless, dust-inducing sun.

Both games challenge players to step outside their comfort zones, forcing them to explore hostile environments in search of vital resources. A key distinction lies in the playable characters: This War of Mine guides a group of diverse, randomly generated civilians, whereas The Alters features a unique team comprised of alternate versions of the main protagonist.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch day.
