The second crucial figure in a child's learning journey is the accompanying adult, who can guide them through specific exercises. These activities help children observe gestures and infer how to position their lips to pronounce sounds correctly.
To achieve this, we select a group of less complex alphabet letters, forming names of animals and everyday words using them. In this program, we focus on the SOUND of the letter rather than its name.
In the beginning, adults should practice with the child, remembering that reading is a gradual process. Later, you can let the application run independently while returning to joint practice periodically. After some time, move to the “Discover the Word” section and complete these exercises:
- Ask the child to pronounce the sounds of the letters in the word TREE.
- After practicing for a bit, ask: "What did you say?"
- Avoid telling the child which word they just spoke.
Repeat this action, encouraging the child to pronounce the letter sounds in "TREE" faster. This shortens the gap between each sound while resisting the urge to reveal the word itself. Eventually, when asked what they said, the child will exclaim, "I said TREE!" At that moment, celebrate—the child has begun to read.
Soon, you will notice a growing interest in reading every word encountered along the way. This is the ideal time to gradually introduce more complex patterns, such as the letter C, which can sound soft (as in sky) or hard (as in house), depending on the accompanying graphemes. Other alphabet letters not initially included will also naturally emerge. Remember that respecting each child's unique pace and learning process is vital.
